Fifty year-old Samuela Cagimaiwasa or ‘Samu’ has lived on Kia Island in Fiji for his whole life. He has fished the waters of the Great Sea Reef since he was a young boy. However, he has witnessed first-hand the decline of marine resources in the area, the fish are not as big or as numerous as they used to be and he has noticed that young people care less and less about the traditional tabu management system. Samu started working with us from the moment I arrived on Kia and has been a staunch supporter of our conservation projects ever since. We are proud to work with Samu as a Conservation Ambassador for Kia Island and the Great Sea Reef!
