Ecotourism training kicks off in Busuanga

Busuanga Municipality is blessed with a beautiful environment rich with potential. One of the ways in which we are helping the communities develop a sense of ownership and stewardship over their rich natural environment is to capacitate them on developing and implementing ecotourism programs.

Ecotourism is considered to be an attractive livelihood option for communities living in areas with rich biodiversity. This is more the case now with changing tastes of eco-tourists who are now putting a premium on gaining unique experiences over convenience.

In the last thee months, C3 has been at work planning and developing materials for an ecotourism training course to be conducted in the first quarter of 2013. The program aims to build capacity for socially and environmentally sustainable tourism in Busuanga. Specifically, the program is meant to create realistic and sustainable options for coastal communities of Busuanga to enter the tourism sector by providing the means and training for local people, especially youth, fishers and women and to offer environmental and cultural experiences for visitors coming to the municipality.

This initiative would not have been possible without the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives of the Canadian Embassy in Manila.
