Dugong and turtle assessments for DENR-PENRO

BUSUANGA, Palawan – C3 Philippines has been tapped by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Palawan to conduct dugong and marine turtle rapid assessments in Northern Palawan.

The assessments will span the Calamianes Group of Islands: Busuanga, Coron, Culion and Linapacan. C3 Philippines has much previous experience on dugong research and assessments in the area and was contracted by the PENRO to assist in these surveys to evaluate the status of populations and habitats critical to both dugongs and marine turtles.

Existing baseline data on dugongs from C3 Philippines’ own projects will contribute to the surveys. We would like to thank all of our dugong research project donors: Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF), Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong (OPCFHK) and Keidanren Nature Conservation Foundation (KNCF).

This project with the DENR is slated to be completed by the end of March 2015.
