C3 receives prestigious Future for Nature Award!

The Future for Nature Award, a 50,000 Euros cash prize, is bestowed annually on three young leaders in species conservation by the Burgers Zoo in conjunction with the World Conservation Union. This year, Patricia ZR Davis was honoured to travel to Holland and receive the prize for her research and conservation efforts for dugongs worldwide.

She has focused on developing rapid assessment techniques for dugongs in developing countries where populations are extremely threatened and successfully engaged communities’ interests in conserving this mythical beast on the brink of extinction in the western Indian Ocean.

The funds go to further supporting her in dugong conservation action in Madagascar, where she is assisting in the launch of C3‘s Environmental Stewardship Project, focusing on incentivizing communities to take marine conservation action.
