Partnerships for Palawan Biodiversity Conservation

Quezon City, Philippines. On March 13, 2014, a partnership between C3 Philippines and Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) was formalized when C3 Philippines Programme Coordinator, Reynante V. Ramilo and FPE Executive Director, Godofredo Villapando signed a Partnership Agreement for the project “Enhancing Biodiversity Conservation by Communities”. The Local Government of Busuanga represented by Hon. Mayor Samuel De Jesus, Sr. also signified its commitment and support for the project.

The project design is based on a grassroots, ridge to reef approach to ecosystem management. Strong participation of communities and local knowledge will be combined with rigorous scientific research to demonstrate holistic and effective maintenance of natural resources. Our approach, which includes components of forest restoration, coastal resource management, capacity building of communities, partnership and collaboration among stakeholders and institutionalization will ensure environmental integrity and economic stability.

The project intends to rehabilitate part of the municipality’s 17,595 hectares of forest and 1,158 hectares of mangrove, mostly located in our four partner barangays (Concepcion, Salvacion, Sagrada and Bogtong), home to a total of 1,289 households and families.
