Underwater surveys on the Great Sea Reef Fiji

Community Centred Conservation (C3) has been working for over a year, studying humphead wrasse (Chelinus undulatus) fisheries on the Great Sea Reef, Fiji.  Most of our work to date has focussed on landing sites, recording individual humphead wrasse as fishers bring them in to shore.

The latest component of this work, funded by Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund are underwater visual census of humphead wrasse to study the species and its habitat in situ. These data will complement our existing data to show us the wider picture of the population dynamics and exploitation of this endangered species and accurately inform management decisions.
